What to expect:
After you arrive, an optometric assistant will run a couple of tests with you to prepare for the exam. Your contact lenses will be checked, we will get the prescription from your glasses, check your peripheral vision, and take some measurements of your eyes.
Right: Visual field machine
Far Right: Auto-Refractor
The doctor in the office will then begin with the refraction to determine your current prescription. With most patients, if possible, eye pressure will be checked and eyes will be dilated. After dilation, the doctor will check the health of your eyes and we will take a fundus photo (a picture of the back of your eyes) to keep on record. This helps us monitor any changes from year to year.
Right: Fundus Camera
Far Right: Fundus Photo
After taking photos, or while waiting for the eye drops you will have a chance to look at our frame selection. If you are interested and being fit for contacts, usually we fit the contacts over the eye without putting the drops in. Dilation and pressure checks are usually done at a second visit if the new fit has significant changes in power or brand.
